We all love making own movies collections. With emergence of Blu ray format copying files from the original Blu Ray disc to a DVD disc has become somewhat problematic because normal Blu Ray discs are over 25GB in size and a traditional DVD only holds 4.7gb. The problem is that in order for the HD content from the BD Movie to fit on a DVD it must be converted. That is why it is very important to compress files in order to save disc space.
In order to copy such a movie you have to choose between two options: a) directly copy M2TS files (full quality), or b) convert Blu ray movie to another format first and store it on your hard drive or burn to DVD. The latter option is more preferable for the majority of users. Thus, we will discuss it in this article.
Announcing AVCHD – The friendly HD format for DVD discs
AVCHD is a brand new high definition (HD) digital video camera recorder file format that uses 1080i and 720p signals onto certain media using highly efficient codec technologies. The files are saved with .mts file extension. What makes AVCHD unique, and able to record long lengths of HD footage with very little storage space is it’s use of Long-GOP compression.
Burning AVCHD to DVD
Only Blu-Ray players can play back avchd files. But you can burn these to a less expensive DVD disc for playback.
