The Best Blu Ray Movies Of All Time

With more than a dozen major movie studios supporting the Blu ray disc format, it is no wonder that Blu ray movies often fly off of shelves the minute that they are released. Why the big scramble for the BDs while the same films that are on DVDs sit with nary a taker? There are a lot of things that in many peoples opinions make the Blu ray format supreme to DVDs, but which movies on BD are considered the best?

To answer this question, there first needs to be standards set that define what makes a disc truly great. Most critics agree that to be considered for the list of Best of all Time, a film has to have incredible audio transfer, spectacular video transfer that is the best that Hi Def has to offer, and also must have bonus features and extras included that do way more than just take up space on the disc. Although the DVD format of course lets movies include many different kinds of bonus features, the BD takes that to all new levels that DVD has never seen. Even if a film was not received very well by critics or audiences, what makes or breaks Blu ray movies are the special effects that are experienced that only a movie on BD can offer.

One of the best Blu ray movies is Blade Runner: The Final Cut. This release is actually a five disc collectors set, each disc having a different cut of the movie. The extras are considered excellent from the audio commentaries to feature length documentaries, and the movie has been digitally restored and has been called dazzling by many.
Ratatouille is another one that has been dubbed as one of the best, and it is because the crisp video and brilliant colors are nothing short of impressively mesmerizing to look at. Going way above and beyond just a simple cartoon, this movie has become one of the favorites of Blu ray fans everywhere.

Another fan favorite of the Blu ray movies is The Godfather set. The restoration that had gone into these films was incredibly difficult because the original negative had been damaged over time because it has been printed so many times. The restoration was a stunning success, however, which resulted in a beautifully clear picture and audio that has never been heard before that is full of new power, richness, and fullness. These are just a few examples of some of the most popular Blu ray movies that have been released for fans to enjoy and cherish for years more to come.

Poor Bryan Note: It wasn't a full RROD, it was only 2 rings. So its just over heating, thus dying a slow, painful death. Backstory: Our dear friend Bryan purchased FFXIII for the PS3 at the midnight release. Gitty as could be, he rushed home to play it. Upon loading up the game, he was distraught by a longer than usual loading screen. After a few minutes, an error appeared on screen. After researching said error, he discovered that his ps3's Blu Ray drive had ceased to be and was no longer apart of the technological living. Discouraged but still determined, he embarked to the Gamestop that afternoon to exchange his copy of the game for the 360 version. Joy! I would arrive at his house that evening to behold the next gen Final Fantasy epic in person, but fate had other plans for dear, dear Bryan. This is what occurred.

The real kicker is that it's a lot worse than it should have been. Square Enix's latest epic - 4.5 years in the making - follows on the basic principles established by all of its playstation predecessors in combining an excellent 3D engine along with vast amounts of pre-rendered CG. This presented two very difficult issues for the developers tasked with porting an already mature PS3 work-in-progress over to the Xbox 360. Firstly, the Crystal Tools engine needed to be translated across to the Microsoft platform. Secondly, the team had to find a way to compress over 32GB of CG to fit within the confines of three Xbox 360 dvds - squeezed already by a copy protection mechanism that limits available space to a meagre 6.8GB, less than the storage potential of both playstation 2 and Wii. The sheer idea of porting over a massive Blu-ray game like this onto the Xbox 360 seems like lunacy, but the good news from a conversion perspective is that the game itself is extremely linear.
